Eniz Fazliov interview

There are different ways to make a skate career last : Making a mark on everyone’s mind with one or two video parts to achieve legend status, launching a new trend, trying to be really charismatic and showing it on your insta story, hanging out with people of influence, training and winning the Street League…
Apparently, Eniz didn’t follow any of those directions because, first, he has a couple of sick parts every year, not just one 10 years ago, not necessary playing on Thrasher, frontside (and backside) bluntslide Le Dôme ledge or blowing his DIY concrete park in the rain can’t really be a trend people would follow, and he didn’t link-up with the fashion scene.
Despite those deficiencies, Eniz is still out there, and people ask for more, because… just watch him skate, that’ s it.

Funny to write something about him because I know he would agree that rather than do an interview he would much rather let the skating talk for him. And has done that for so many years now. He’s one of the most honest and direct/frank people I know..
I remember one time in Helsinki he had been taking and cutting some “Frank you” stickers and putting them over a new local shops stickers which were everywhere, sticker said vertically “My Favorite Things” MFT is the shop name. And so he would make it say “My Favorite FRANK” and it was everywhere. Every sticker. The owner came up to me at a party and was a bit pissed and asked me who or what was up with this. I just said well I’m not sure it don’t really matter anyways. But he was not happy. I then told Eniz this.. he was like ” what? Tell him it was me”. Then went up and told him.. long story longer. He’s just Real like that.
I would say he’s a real skateboarders skater.. whatever that means haha Everything he’s done. He deserves everything he’s got. And deserves even more. Eniz: so fuxing boring. All this skating and being good at it. Who cares!? Where’s the hip pants man and “new” tricks!? He really hates this shit. All this talking and trying to explain shit. For sure in English too haha. Fux you Eniz! Sorry Faz!! And thank you Faz!!

3 best skate spots you’ve ever been to :

Kiasma, The Museum of Modern Art in Helsinki, Finland. Theres lots of space and perfect ledges.
Puple park, Helsinki, Finland. I have been skating the park for Half of my life. And it’s right next to ocean.
Paral-lel, Barcelona, Spain. Also lot of space, smooth ground and really good manny pads.

Famous spots you wish never have been to, or most disappointing spots:
Macba, Barcelona, Spain. Too hyped. People go there too much for the show and not actually for skating. But that’s only my opinion.
Hotel de Ville, Lyon, France. Looks awesome in video, but when you see the place in real life it’s like full of cracks and you can only skate it from couple of angles (but still wanna go there and change the way I feel about it).

3 slams you won’t forget
One time when I was 16 yrs, I was jumping this double set and Arto Saari filming it and Anton Miettinen was taking photos. All of the sudden I hit my head, blacked out and woke up at the hospital (which was 40 minute drive from the spot we were). Arto was next to me when I woke up and he showed me the footage and I couldn’t remember anything about the whole situation. This happened in Finland.

Copenhagen, Denmark. I was skating a pool, and suddenly the board went the other way than myself. This was the first day of the tour. I hit my face pretty badly and the first thing was to check that I have all my teeth left. Well they were. The tour went on for two weeks after the accident. When I came back home, I went to see a doctor cuz I couldn’t smell or taste anything. Then I found out, that my skull was actually broken from the hit. They told me it could be fixed with a surgery, but it would leave a scar to my face. So we just decided to do nothing about it and still this day you can feel that the skull hasn’t boned liked it should.

I was skating at this competition in Berlin. It was pretty early in the morning and didn’t feel so good after last night. Hahahahah. I was just warming up and one switch crooked on the ledge ( with was waxed too well) didn’t went quite how I imagined. The wheels went on top of the ledge and slipped. I couldn’t catch the fallin’ and a bone from my left hand broked. So stop fucking waxing those god damn ledges, hahahah!

E-mails.. 😃
Otherwise, I’m not that kind of guy who postpones stuff to do later. I always want to make everything happen asap, so I don’t need to stress about it later and I can just focus on skating. Exept e-mails, still hate those, sorry (or any messages at all, if you need anything, just call me).

3 things or scenes you witnessed randomly in the street when skating that you’ll never forget
These things happen mostly when I’m traveling, cuz I don’t have a clue where are we going or what are we going to do. Recently we were in Italy and chilling’ outside the hotel after a long day of skating. All of the sudden, we hear a class broking and an alarm went of (the noise was like in a movie). We stand up and went to see what is happening, and around the corner we saw one guy standing outside of a tobacco store and two guys inside emptying the place. They all were dressed alike and looked the same. After they spotted us and they hit the road, Everything was over in a few minutes. It was just so random to see that in the middle of night, in a town I don’t even remember.

3 things about Helsinki people should know ?
Tons of spots! Theres so much more to skate than people think. One of the sickest DIY-parks in Europe, or probably in the whole world; Suvilahti DIY.
During June we have endless nights and sun almost 24 hours a day. Everyone should experience it.

3 things coming in the near future you’re looking forward
My first Nike tour, starting in one Hour (leaving to the airport soon, haha). Working on this Nike project, that will come out in future. Stay tuned.
Looking also forward to not injure myself and stay healthy.

They are my best friends and I skate with them all the time. My girlfriend ❤ And my family!

3 best sessions ever Theres been so many of them during the last 20 years… I’ve enjoyed all of the times. Hoping that the best ones are still to come.  

Il y a plusieurs manières de faire durer une carrière de skater pro : Sortir une video part de références, dont tout le monde se rappelle afin d’atteindre le statut de légende. Lancer une mode. Être quelqu’un de très charismatique et le montrer en permanence sur sa story instagram. Traîner avec les “gens influents” . Ou encore s’entraîner et gagner la Street League.

Apparemment Eniz n’a suivi aucune des ses directions. En effet, il doit sortir une ou deux video parts par an, pas une seule il y a dix ans, et pas forcément sortie sur Thrasher. Faire frontside et backside blunt slide sur le ledge du Dôme, ou retourner son park DIY sous une pluie fine peut il être une mode que les gens vont suivre ? Et pour finir, Eniz n’a pas vraiment mis un pieds dans le monde de la mode…

Malgré tous ces « défauts », Eniz est toujours là, encore, et tout le monde en redemande, alors pourquoi ? Juste parce qu’il défonce, c’est tout.

C’est la personne la plus honnête, franc et directe que je connais. Je me souviens d’un fois à Helsinki, il avait découpé des stickers « Frank You » et les avait collés sur les stickers du shop Local « My Favorite Things ». Ca donnait « My Favorite Frank », et y en avaient partout. Et le gérant du shop était moyennement content, forcément, et m’a demandé qui avait fait ça à une soirée. Je lui ai répondu que je n’étais pas sûr et que ce n’était pas grave mais il n’était pas content. Je l’ai dit à Eniz qui me dit « Quoi ? Dis lui que c’est moi » et lui a dit… Pour faire court, il est juste vrai, comme ça…

Je dirait juste que c’est un vrai skateboarder, peu importe ce que ça veut dire ahah Il mérite tout ce qu’il a obtenu, et plus encore…

Eniz, tellement relou, tout ce skate et être si fort, mais tout le monde s’en fout ! Où sont les pantalons et tes « nouveaux tricks » à la mode ?

Il déteste vraiment tout ça. Tout ce bla-bla à essayer de lui expliquer, en anglais en plus, tu fais chier Eniz !

Kiasma, le musée d’art moderne à Helsinki en Finlande. Il y a beaucoup d’espace et des ledges parfaits.
Puple park, Helsinki. J’ai skaté cet endroit la moitié de ma vie, c’est juste à côté » de l’océan.
Paralel à Barcelone, il y a beaucoup d’espace aussi, un sol lisse et de très bons manual pads.

Spots connus, qui t’ont déçus :

Macba. Trop de hype, trop de monde y va pour se montrer et pas vraiment pour skater, c’est seulement mon opinion.

Hôtel de Ville à Lyon. Ça a l’air trop bien en vidéo, mais quand tu vois le spot en vrai, il y a des cracks partout et tu peux seulement skater le spot avec quelques angles, j’aimerais quand même y retourner pour avoir une autre impression.

3 slams que tu n’oublie pas :

Quand j’avais 16 ans, je skatais ce double set et Arto Saari filmait, Anton Miettinen prenait des photos. Je me suis cogné la tête, black out et je me suis réveillé à l’hôpital (qui est à une quarante minutes de trajets depuis le spot). Arto «était assis à côté de moi quand je me suis réveillé, il m’a montré les images et je ne me souvenais de rien. C’était en Finlande

A Copenhague, je skatais cette pool, soudainement le board est partie dans le sens inverse de moi, le premier jour du tour. Je me suis cogné le visage et le premier truc que j’ai fait était de verifier si j’avais encore toutes mes dents, toutes étaient encore là. Le tour a durer deux semaine et quand je suis rentrée, je suis allé chez un médecin car je n’avait plus de goût et d’odorat. On a découvert que le crâne avait été fondu avec le choc. Ils m’ont dit qu’on pouvait réparer ça avec une opération mais que cela laisserait un cicatrice sur le visage. On a décidé de laisser ça comme ça et de ne rien faire, et je sent encore aujourd’hui que le crâne ne s’est pas ressoudé comme il le faudrait.

Je skatais à ce contest à Berlin, il était tôt le matin et je ne ma sentais pas super bien après la soirée de la veille. Je m’échauffais et j’ai fait switch crook sur un ledge, très bien waxé, et ça s’est pas passé comme je l’attendais. Les roues sont passées dessus et on zippé, j’ai pas pu me rattrapé et je me suis cassé la main droite. Alors, arrêtez de waxer ces ledges !!! Ahahah

Scènes dont tu as été le témoin dans la rue en skatant :

Ces trucs arrivent quand tu es en tour principalement, car j’ai pas idée d’où on va et ce qu’on va faire. Récemment, on était en Italie en bas de l’hôtel après une longue journée de skate. Soudainement, on entend un bruit de verre brisé et une alarme. On se lève et on regarde au coin de la rue, un homme se tenait devant un bureau de tabac et deux autres vidait le magasins à l’intérieur. Les trois étaient habillés pareil et se ressemblaient. Après nous avoir remarqués ils ont tracé. Tout était terminé en quelques minutes. C’est toujours bizarre de voir ça au milieu de la nuit dans une ville dont je ne ma rappelle même pas.

3 choses à savoir sur Helsinki :

Des tonnes de spots, bien plus que ce que les gens imaginent.
Un des meilleurs DIY en Europe, et peut-être au monde : Suvilahti DIY
En juin, il fait jour presque pendant 24 heures, tout le monde devrait vivre ça un fois.

3 choses qui se passent pour toi dans un avenir proche :

Mon premier tour avec Nike Bosser sur un projet avec Nike, pour bientôt, restez à l’écoute. 
Faire en sorte de rester en forme et ne pas me blesser.
