Beware of the Ant ! – Anton Myhrvold interview

I first heard about Anton when I watched the Sweet Skateboards video “Sour” a few years ago. As “the last part status” promise, he’s good for sure. He definitly can combine technical competence with that something extra.  However, he is one of the few guy’s I could watch doing tech lines at Macba or Parallel and not get me bored. 

YO, beware of the Ant! I personally dont know about anyone with such manual/ledge skills as him, when he does a new trick he fuckin LEARNS it aswell, almost never fail it ever again. its amazing. now lets hear from the man himself what he got to say bout this n that. Let’s start with the Basics, how could you introduce yourself?
Introduce myself, ok, here we go ! My name is Anton Myhrvold I’m 23 years old and from a little town in Sweden called Norrköping close the Stockholm.

Commençons, par les bases, peux tu te présenter ?
OK, allons y, je m’appelle Anton Myhrvold, j’ai 23 ans et je viens de, Norrköping , une petite ville de Suède vers Stockholm.

Could you describe your hometown Norrköping ? Have you always lived there before moving to Barcelona ?
My hometown is actually a beautiful and nice place ! When i was young i just wanted to get away from it but now i really like spending time there. Its just really  hard to skate there not really any plazas or obvious spots.
But i think that’s good in many ways because then you have to do something out of nothing which in my eyes are the “real spots” it’s easy to be lazy especially here in Barcelona!
But then again plazas are also super fun to skate!  I guess I like to skate it all.
I love to get that feeling like when you were a kid and saw something new and you dropped everything and just skate that thing I still get that feeling when I’m on the road. Traveling in general is something that’s a big interest of mine, So to combine traveling to new countries and skate there is the best!

Comment peux tu décrire Norrköping ? As-tu toujours vécu là bas avant de t’installer à Barcelone ?
La ville où j’ai grandi est un endroit magnifique ! Quand j’était plus jeune, je ne pensais qu’à en partir mais aujourd’hui j’aime vraiment y passer du temps. C’est juste tellement difficile d’y faire du skate, il n’y a pas vraiment de plaza ou de vrais spots.
Dans un sens, ça a de bons côtés car tu es obligé d’exploiter le peu que tu trouve, ce qui à mon avis sont les vrais spots. C’est facile de devenir fainéant, spécialement à Barcelone. ! Après, les plazas sont très marrants à skater ! Je peux dire que j’aime skater de tout. J’adore la sensation que tu ressens quand tu étais gamin et que tu essayais de skater tout les nouveaux trucs que tu voyais. Je ressens toujours ça quand je suis sur la route. Voyager est un de mes principaux intérêts. Donc combiner dans un voyage la découverte de nouveaux pays et de pouvoir y faire du skate, c’est ce qu’il y a de meilleur !

Even if you had already good parts in the last couple of years, 2013 seems to be a relevant one with already two standout parts for sml wheels ? How long did those take to film ?
I made one part in Barcelona; we filmed that one during maybe 3 months.
That part reminds me of the best times! Wake up, drink coffee, grab the board and just go skate all day with the homies, that’s life right there!  If you just skate around and not think about that you have a deadline or have to film something that’s when i feel most comfortable and get most work done just like this part. My friend Johannes has a vx and we just skated together and if somebody wanted to get something on camera we filmed it.
Then we made a trip to Tenerife for 3 months which was so fun!
Good weather and friends on a island full of new spots!
I got hurt the first month, that was a little bummer but i could still skate almost two out of the three months, and I still had a really good time hanging out with the homies.
We are actually making plans for a new trip it will be a good one for sure!

Même si tu avais déjà eu de bonnes parts ce dernières années, 2013 semble être une année importante avec déjà deux grosses parts ? Combien de temps ça t’a pris pour les filmer ?
Une a été filmée à Barcelone, pendant 3 mois. Cette part me rappelle les meilleurs souvenirs ! Ce lever, boire un café et partie skater avec les potes, c’est la vie d’ici ! C’est quand je skate sans penser à une deadline ou au fait que je dois filmer quelque chose que je suis le plus en confiance et le plus productif, comme pendant cette part. Mon ami Johannes a une VX et on skate ensemble donc si tu veux filmer quelque chose il est là.
Ensuite on a fait un trip à Tenerife pendant 3 mois qui était tellement marrant ! Une bonne météo avec les potes sur une île remplis de spots ! J’étais blessé le premier mois, ce qui était chiant mais j’ai pu skater les deux autre mois et avoir du bons temps avec les potes. On est en train de préparer un nouveau trip qui va être forcément amusant !

How is the filming for the sweet/sk8mafia video ? Are you happy with what you filmed yet 
SweetMafia video! I think this collaboration is one of the sickest ever made just because its two brands that became friends first and then made a video together with shared parts, I don’t think i have seen that before. Trick wise it’s not really that much footage per person maybe 1 minute.
But whatever Nick Lamm puts in there I’m backing it to 100 % trick wise you never get pleased, you know what I mean, but it’s a good thing cause that’s what keeps you going !
For this video we wanted to show the love and all the good times, there are even tricks in my part that homies have filmed with handy cams like when you were a kid you know, I like that vibe !
I’m sharing part with Marshall Heat. But I must say that if one single part is going to be on point the cooperation between the skater and the filmmaker is very important! My personal favorite filmmaker Isak Lindberg, he made the last sweet video, Sour. When we made that one we two tried to find new spots with no stress and I think the whole video came out good.

Comment s’est passé le tournage de la vidéo Sweet/Sk8mafia ? Tu es satisfait de ce que tu as ?
SweetMafia video ! Je pense que c’est la meilleure collaboration qu’il n’y ait jamais eu car deux marques qui sont d’abord devenue amies et ensuite on a fait une video ensemble avec de shared parts. Je ne crois pas avoir vu ça avant. Au niveau skate, il n’y a pas tant de footage que ça, peut être 1 minute chacun. Peut importe ce que Nick Lamn a mis, je le soutient à 100%.Tu n’es jamais satisfaits des tricks que tu as filmées, tu vois de quoi je parle, mais c’est quelque chose qui te pousse à continuer.
Pour cette vidéo on voulait montrer le côté « bon temps », y a même des tricks dans ma part filmée avec une caméra de poche, comme quand t’es gamin, j’adore cette vibe ! Je partage une part avec Marshal Heat. Mais je dois dire que la collaboration entre le filmeur et le skater primordiale pour filmer une bonne part. Mon filmeur favori est Isak Lindberg, il avait fait la dernière video Sweet Sour. Quand nous l’avons filmée, nous cherchions des spots ensemble sans pression et je pense que cela en a fait une bonne vidéo.

Who got your favorite part in the Sweet/Mafia video ?
I like them all, it’s Family! But I must say Erik and Javier’s part is my favorite! Two legends right there.

Quelle est ta part favorite de la vidéo Sweet Mafia ?
Je les aime toutes, c’est la famille ! Mais je dois dire que la part de Javier et Erik est ma préférée. On a deux légendes là !

Have you got a good story with the Sk8mafia ?
We rented a house in San Diego with the whole sweet team and it was a really dope one we even had a Jacuzzi on the roof. Skated all day and when it got dark we had something we called Club Sweet in the house ! Sweet Mafia plus girls and Gs ! We had BBQs all night long, Good times !

Tu as de bonnes histories du temps passé avec les gars de Sk8mafia ?
Nous avons loué une maison à San Diego avec le team Sweet au complet, c’était trop bien y avait même un jacuzzi sur le toît !On skatait toute la journée et quand il faisait nuit on appelait la maison le Club Sweet ! Sweetmafia avec de filles et les toute la bande ! On faisait des barbecue toute la nuit ! Du bon temps !

Do you think you could be bored of Barcelona ?
I think i like barcelona to much to be bored of it ! It has given me so many good friends and life lessons. Skating wise you already know how good it is !

Penses tu que tu pourrais te lasser de Barcelone ?
J’aime trop Barcelone pour pouvoir m’en lasser ! J’y ai rencontrer trop d’amis et j’y ai appris des leçon de vie. Pour le skate tu sais à quel point c’est bien !

I’v read you were fan of Love Eneroth,! Have you heard about him lately ?
I remember going to Stockholm, Sweden capital city, with my dad and I was just a little kid and I was skating the skatepark when I saw Love skate around and he was like a fish in the water ! I  was like, I want to skate like that to some day ! And ever since then I’m been a big fan.
I havent seen him around in a while but Im sure he is killing it somewhere as always !

J’ai entendu que tu était fan de Love Eneroth ! Tu as entendu parlé de lui dernièrement ?
Je me souviens aller à Stockholm avec mon père quand j’étais tout jeune et j’étais au skatepark quand j’ai vu Love skater, il était comme un poisson dans l’eau ! Je me disais que je voulais skater comme lui un jour ! J’ai toujours été fan depuis ce jour là. Je ne l’ai pas vu depuis un moment mais je suis certain qu’il défonce quelque part comme il l’a toujours fait.

Why do you think there are so many Swedish talented  skaters ?
I think in general all over Europe there a lot of good skaters! But from just Sweden i think it’s because we got really good skate parks to skate over the winter and that’s helps to learn tick and then when summer finally comes everyone are super hungry to hit the streets!

Selon toi, pourquoi voit on tant de skater suédois talentueux ?
Je pense qu’il y a beaucoup de skater talentueux en Europe en général ! En Suède, nous avons de très bons skateparks qu’on skate en hiver et ça aide à apprendre de nouveaux tricks et lorsque l’été arrive enfin on a vraiment faim d’aller skater la rue !

Beside Spain, Cali or Sweden, have you planned to travel to some other places in the coming next months? Where would you like to skate and why ?
Most of all i would like to go to New York! I’ve only been to San Diego and LA so there’s a lot more I want to see in the states. Other than the states is Australia on the top of my places to go!

A part l’Espagne, la Californie et la Suède, as tu prévu de voyager vers d’autres pays dans les prochains mois ? Où aimerais tu aller et pourquoi ?
New York serait mon premier choix ! Je suis seulement allé à San Diego et à LA donc il y a beaucoup d’autres endroits que j’aimerais voir au Etats Unis. En dehors des Etats Unis, l’Australie serait ma destination préférée.

If you got the opportunity of a skate “career”, could you move to California and live there? Always a dilemma for Europeans…
I love Europe! The people, culture and the fact that you can move around without any problem and live where ever you want. I feel like US got some crazy laws about getting in and out of the country and I think it can be hard and take some time for a guy from Europe to move over to the US. But i like it in many ways to and i could easily live there for a couple of years !

Si tu avais l’opportunité d’une carrière professionnelle, pourrais tu t’installer en Californie et vivre là-bas ? Souvent un dilemme pour les européens.
J’aime l’Europe ! Les gens, la culture et le fait que tu puisse bouger sans problème et vivre où tu veux. J’ai l’impression que les Etats Unis ont des lois folles pour rentrer ou quitter le pays et ça peut être difficile et prendre du temps pour un européen avant de pouvoir s’installer là bas.
Néanmoins, j’aime beaucoup de choses des USA et je pourrais facilement y vivre quelques années !

Obviously, you like ledge/manual tricks. Do you skate transitions sometimes?
When I grew up my friends and I just skated what was in front of us and that was mostly flat and curbs. But a couple of years ago we got a concrete park in my hometown with a lot of tranny. I skated there over the summers and i learned a lot from it. I really like to skate mini ramps and not to heavy tranny!  But i hope i learn how to skate it too one day, looks so fun !!

Evidement, tu aime skater des ledges et faire des manuals. T’arrive t il de skater des courbes ?
Quand j’ai grandit, moi et mes potes stataient juste ce qui se trouvaient sous nos pieds, principalement du flat et des trottoirs. Depuis quelques années nous avons eu un skatepark en béton avec de nombreuses courbes. J’y skatais pendant l’été et ça m’a permis d’apprendre. J’adore skater des mini-rampes mais pas de trop les grosses courbes ! J’espère apprendre à en skater un de ces jours, ça à l’aire fun !

Which skaters impress you lately (except for your teammates of course) ?
These guys have been killing it here in Barcelona lately ! Barney Page , Carlos Ribeiro , Wes Kremer.

En dehors de tes team mates, quels skateurs t’impressionnent le plus en ce moment ?
Ces gars défoncent à Barcelone ces derniers temps : Barney Page, Carlos Ribeiro et Wes Kremer.
