Let’s start with the basics, where do you come from? Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
I am from Southwest Colorado, a small town in the mountains called Telluride. I grew up there for the most part, though I traveled a lot growing up staying in different places for small periods of time. Now I live in Brooklyn.

Où as-tu grandi et où vis tu maintenant ?
Je viens du sud-ouest du Colorado, une petite ville dans les montagnes appelée Telluride. J’ai grandi là-bas la plupart du temps, bien que je sois resté dans beaucoup de différentes places en grandissant pendant de petites périodes. Aujourd’hui, je vis à Brooklyn.

 

How’s your life besides skating, do you have a job, a girlfriend, any other hobbies?
My life is good, I am a lucky person, I have great friends and a great girlfriend. Besides skating I like to wander around the city with my friends. I like to explore new places, and try to stay opened minded and create things for people to experience and enjoy.

A quoi ressemble ta vie à côté du skate, tu as un job, une copine, des hobbies ?
Ma vie est agréable, je suis chanceux, j’ai des amis géniaux et une super copine. A côté du skate, j’aime errer dans la ville avec mes potes. J’aime découvrir de nouveaux endroits, et essayer de garder l’esprit ouvert, créer des choses que les autres pourront apprécier.

 

What do you mean exactly by “explore new places” and “create things” ?
I mean I just try to do new things and try not to get too comfortable with what I already know/ have done. Even though that’s a hard thing to do. A lot of that for me, is going new places, that’s always been one of my favorite things. When I was 13 I went to Barcelona with my dad. We landed and I just took off, found MACBA all the spots around there, and then wound up lost as fuck and didn’t make it home till like 2 am. But the whole time I don’t remember being scared it was just like a rush. I like that shit. I need to start traveling more.
I like creating things. I like photography, drawing, painting, reading, all that cliché skateboarder gone artist shit.  I do those things for fun. But I don’t really put any of it out in the open. I put some photos on my Tumblr that’s about it. Skating is similar though. I think it’s because the way me and my friends skate is like funny and not that serious so it’s more tolerable to me, It doesn’t feel pretentious, and people enjoy watching it. Once people start thinking they are artists instead of just doing what they do is when everything becomes whack.

Qu’entends tu par là ?
Je pense à faire des choses nouvelles et essayer de ne pas rester sur mes acquis. Pour moi, en grande partie, c’est découvrir de nouveaux endroits, ça a toujours été une de mes activités favorites. Quand j’avais 13 ans, je suis allé à Barcelone avec mon père. A peine atterri, je suis allé à Macba et tous les spots autour, je me suis ensuite complétement perdu et j’ai réussi à rentrer à deux heure du matin. Par contre, pendant tout ce temps, je n’ai jamais ressenti de peur. J’aime ce truc. J’ai besoin de voyager plus.
J’aime créer des choses. J’aime peindre, dessiner, lire, tout ce cliché de merde de skater artiste. Je fais ça pour le plaisir. Mais je ne diffuse pas vraiment. Je post des photos sur mon Tumblr, c’est à peu près tout. C’est un peu près la même chose avec le skate. Je pense que la façon dont on skate avec mes potes est juste plaisante et pas si sérieux, donc ça me paraît plus acceptable, ce n’est pas prétentieux et les gens aime regarder ça. Dès que les gens commencent à penser qu’ils sont artistes au lieux de juste faire ce qu’ils font, tout commence à déconner.

 

 

 

According to all the footage you have in the John Wilson’s videos, do you skate all the time with him ?
Yeah I skate with him mostly, we are all basically roommates so we all skate together; Max palmer, Conor Prunty, Kevin Maillet, Dallas Todd, and the 50 other people we are usually out skating with.

Tu as beaucoup d’images dans les videos de John Wilson, tu skates tout le temps avec lui ?
Oui je skate presque tout le temps avec lui, nous sommes colocataires donc on skate tous ensemble, Max Palmer, Conor Prunty, Kevin Maillet, Dallas Todd, et les 50 autres avec qui on skate avec habituellement.

 

What do you like about skating in NY?
It’s conducive to the way I skate. I don’t like thinking about skating, I just like skating. I enjoy going out with a clear head not worrying about a certain trick or spot. I like spontaneity and NY is great for that as for most cities that you are able to get around just on a board. New spots are always coming and going in the city, skating around and finding new random shit is always going to get me hyped. New York is my favorite city.

Qu’est ce que tu aimes à propos de skater à NY ?
C’est adapté à la façon dont je skate. Je n’aime pas vraiment penser au skate, j’aime juste en faire. J’apprécie sortir l’esprit libre sans me préoccuper du choix des spots ou des tricks. J’aime la spontanéité et NY est parfait pour ça, comme dans la plupart des villes où tu peux te déplacer en skate. De nouveaux spots sont toujours en train d’apparaître et disparaître, se balader et trouver des trucs à skater au hasard m’a toujours excité. New York est ma ville favorite.

 

What do you dislike about skating in NY (beside the winter weather) ?
I can’t really think of anything I dislike about skateboarding in New York that doesn’t exist everywhere else.

Qu’est ce que tu n’aimes pas à NY (à part l’hiver) ?
Je ne trouve rien de particulier que je n’aime pas à NY qui n’existe pas partout aileurs.

You had a bunch of footage in 2014, are you getting as much in 2015? Are you working on something specifically?
I haven’t really filmed that much since Johnny’s last clip Horny. I just got back from Puerto Rico and I think he’s going to make a little video clip of the trip. I think it will probably be around five minutes long. Johnny puts almost everything he films out there just for fun, whether it’s one of his blog edits or a video, that’s why there is constant footage. It’s all just fun no serious “get these clips” vibe. Other than that I would like to take my time and work on a good piece that people will appreciate.

Tu as eu beaucoup d’image en 2014, tu auras autant de choses en 2015 ? Bosses tu sur quelque chose en particulier ?
Je n’ai pas filmé tant que ça depuis le dernier clip de John “Horny“. Je reviens juste de Puerto Rico et je pense qu’il va monter un clip du trip. Probablement un clip de 5 minutes. Johnny sort à peu près tout ce qu’il filme juste pour le plaisir, que ce soit pour son blog ou une vidéo, c’est pourquoi il y a constamment des images. Ce n’est pas censé être sérieux à la « get these clips » vibe. A côté de ça je voudrais prendre mon temps et travailler sur une part que les gens pourront apprécier.

 

Talking trip, what places have you visited due to skateboarding?
I have been to BCN as I mentioned when I was 13. That was my first time out of the country. I liked Barcelona a lot. I went back in like 2007 with my grandma because she was visiting friends and she offered to take me with. I was hyped back then I would only skate by myself, I’d skate all day, get lost, and do it again the next day.
As of recent I went to Puerto Rico with pretty much everyone in NY. That shit was really crazy. Things were wild. Too many crazy guys packed onto some small ass island was recipe for disaster. But it was dope and we skated a lot. The spots out there are better than I expected, still a lot of never been skated terrain.
Other than that just around the US.

A propos de voyage, où le skateboard t’as fait partir ?
Je suis allé à Barcelone comme dit précédemment. C’était mon premier voyage à l’étranger. J’adore Barcelone. J’y suis retourné en 2007 avec ma grand-mère car elle venait rendre visite à des amis et elle m’a proposé de l’accompagner. Je skatais seul uniquement, toute la journée, je me perdais, et je recommençais le jour suivant.
Plus récemment, Puerto Rico avec tous les New Yorkais. C’était fou. Trop de fous entassé sur cette petite île devait forcement être un désastre. Mais c’était vraiment bien et on a beaucoup skaté. Les spots étaient mieux que je ne l’imaginais, il y en a encore qui n’ont jamais été skatés.
Sinon, à part ça, juste aux Etats Unis.

 

 You know Alex Olson pretty well, do you talk music with him?
I don’t really know him that well, I’ve just skated with him a lot recently, he’s cool and one of my favorite skaters. But haven’t done much talking with him about music. I do like the music he listens to though, he makes some cool stuff as well.

Tu connais un peu Alex Olson, tu parles musique avec lui ?
Je ne la connais pas tant que ça, j’ai juste beaucoup skaté avec lui récemment, il est cool, un de mes skaters favoris. Je n’ai pas beaucoup parlé musique avec lui. Par contre, j’aime bien la musique qu’il écoute, et il fait des bons trucs aussi.

What’s the craziest thing have you witnessed in the streets of NY?
Hahaha a lot of crazy shit you know. Just classic bums doing weird shit, weird junkie stuff. Just off the top of my head it’s been like 5 degrees or colder every day, and the other day it warmed up and was raining. I was walking home at night and there was a body laid out on the floor with a blanket over it just getting rained on at like 1 am. I’m pretty sure they were dead. I never could understand how the homeless survive in this climate but i guess apparently some don’t.

Quel est le truc le plus dingue dont tu as été témoins dans les rues de NY ?
Ahah pleins de trucs fous tu vois. Des tarrés qui font des trucs bizarres, des étranges junkies. Ce qui me vient à l’esprit là, il fait – 20° ou plus froid tous les jours, et l’autre jour ça c’est un peu réchauffé et il pleuvait. Je rentrais chez moi, de nuit et j’ai vu un corps allongé par terre avec une couverture qui le recouvrait, avec la pluie qui tombait dessus à 1 heure du matin. Je suis à peu près sûr qu’il était mort. Je n’ai jamais compris comment les sans-abris survivaient avec un tel climat mais apparemment pas tous.
