Karsten Kleppan interview top 3

Karsten would make everyone jealous, he rips, has that Scandinavian blood, looks healthy and happy, got good sponsors… To make long story short, Karsten is the perfection.
Actually, CafeCreme doesn’t necessary support perfection. So, we asked him a few questions to find out what’s wrong with him.
Well, we failed. His answers make sens and are quite relevant. Holy perfection…

3 places visited:

Valpariso, Chile. Cause it was a beautiful port city on a steep hillside and like nothing I have ever seen before. The spots were rugged and hard to skate, but just to be that far from home in such a nice and different place was amazing
Valpariso, Chili, car c’est une magnifique ville portuaire accrochée sur un flanc de montagne comme je n’avais jamais vu avant. Les spots étaient rugueux et difficiles à skater, mais se trouver si loin de chez soi dans un endroit si beau et si différent était génial.

Sicily, Italy. Super good food and some of the best spots I have ever skated
La Sicile. La nourriture est délicieuse et les meilleurs spots que j’ai skatés.

Taipei, Taiwan. It’s a different world. It was my first time in Asia and the cultural difference was so big from Europe. I know that’s what everyone says when they go there, but it’s a reason for it. And the spots were incredible.
Taipei, Taiwan. C’est un autre monde. C’était ma première visite en Asie et la culture y est si différente qu’en Europe. Je sais que c’est ce que tout le monde dit quand il va là-bas, mais à juste titre. Et les spots sont fous.

Landhausplatz in Innsbruck, Austria. It’s unreal. It’s like this landscape full off little transitions banks and benches. It’s just too good to be true
Landhausplatz à Innsbruck en Autriche. C’est fou. C’est une sorte de place jonchée de courbes, plans inclinés et des bancs. C’est trop beau pour être vrai.

Vulcano spot in Sicily. I don’t know the name of the spot but, it’s this plaza that has vulcanos and curve ledges in metal. It’s insane
Le spot des volcanos en Sicile. Je ne connais pas le nom du spot, c’est une place avec des vulcanos, des ledges qui tournent en métal. C’est génial.

TBS in Malmo. Pontus and his crew made it. Just the funniest spot to skate
TBS in Malmö. Construit par Pontus et sa bande. C’est le spot le plus amusant.

Bs smith fs revert on this curve ledge in to a vulcano bank in Sicily. Wasnt really a crazy battle or anything. Just liked the way it was filmed and how the spot looked
BS Smith FS Revert du ledge qui tourne dans le volcano sur ce spot en Sicile. C’était pas si fou, je n’ai pas trop galéré mais j’aime la façon dont ça a été filmé et le look du spot.

 

My opening line in “Hold it Down”. It was the kickflip bs tail and then wallie lipslide around the inside of a curve marble ledge. It took hours and it was cold as fuck. Pretty stoked on the way it came out too
La ligne au début de “Hold it down”. Flip Back tail puis le wallie lipslide à l’intérieur du ledge qui tourne. Ca a pris des heures et il faisait trop froid. Très heureux aussi de ce que ça a donné à la fin.

I did a fs wallride down this 10 stairs in Oslo. Think it was second to last trick in my “Hold it Down part”. Had to do it twice because the first one was sketchy. It was a nice feeling to get it good the second time. It was a battle and I Probably took ten hard slams to the hip back to back before I got it right
J’ai fait FS Wall Ride sur un dix marches à Oslo. Je crois que c’est l’avant dernier trick de « Hold it Down ». J’ai dû le faire deux fois car le premier était sketchy. J’ai vraiment apprécié de le faire proprement la deuxième fois. J’ai lutté, je crois que je me suis pris une dizaine de slams sur la hanche à la suite avant de le faire.

3 spots you wish never have been to, or most disappointing:

I went to El Toro, but the rail was gone ah ah 
Je suis allé à El Torro et le rail n’y était plus ahah.

Sants Barcelona. Always wanted to go there and skate the ledges under the roof. I finally got there and they were so fucked. It’s a good spot, just remember the disappointment
Sants Barcelone. J’avais toujours voulu skate les ledges sous l’abri. Finalement, quand j’y suis allé, les ledges étaient défoncés. C’est un bon spot mais la déception m’a marqué.

Same with Pier7 SF. Got there and they were covered in wood
Pareil à Pier 7 à SF. Quand j’y suis allé, les ledges étaient recouverts avec du bois.

 

3 slams you haven’t forgotten
3 chutes que tu n’as pas oubliées

This one slam from my “hold it down” part. Was trying to fifty transfer this rail and then ollie a ten stairs right after. I got a wheel bite on the fifty transfer and pretty much flew down the stairs on my side. Didn’t get hurt or anything but it’s definitely one I won’t forget
Un qui est dans “Hold it down”. J’essayais 50 50 sur le rail avec les marches à passer en sortant. La roue a touché en sortant du grind, je suis tombé direct sur le flanc, en bas. Je ne me suis pas fait mal mais je ne l’oublierai pas.

This was at a bowl competition and I decided that I wanted to kickflip into the deep end. I got a pretty good catch on one try and decided to commit, but immediately hung up with my back truck on the coping and flew to the bottom. I was Lucky I didn´t hit my head, but it hurt like hell!
C’était à un contest de bowl, j’avais décidé de faire flip dans la partie la plus haute, j’ai senti que j’avais bien catché donc j’ai essayé de replaquer, mais j’ai fait hang up et j’ai volé jusqu’au sol. J’ai eu de la chance de ne pas me cogner la tête mais ça a fait très mal.

First time I tried to boardslide a street handrail. Think I was 13 or something. It was this black out rail of a four stairs at the city hall in Oslo. I went full speed and was determent to do it, but as I was ollie-ing to get on the boardslide I hit my front wheels on the rail, flew of my board and took the rail straight to the nuts. It´s still to this day probably my most memorable slam. Haunted me for years. haha
La première fois que j’ai essayé boardslide sur un rail “de street”. Je devais avoir 13 ans. Il s’agissait du rail noir  de 4 marches au centre-ville d’Oslo. Je suis arrivé à fond bien décidé à le faire, mais mes roues avant ont touché le rail pendant le Ollie, j’ai pris le rail direct dans les parties. A ce jour, ça reste la chute qui m’a le plus marqué. Ça m’a hanté pendant des années ahah

Unexpected things you take with you on trip, and why?
Choses inattendues que tu emmènes en voyage
I try to pack things I need on the trips so nothing out of the ordinary. Just annoying to have a bunch of stuff you don’t need. Not really to superstitious either, so it’s not like I need my lucky blanket or anything
J’essaie d’emmener ce dont j’ai besoin, donc rien qui sort de l’ordinaire. C’est plutôt chiant d’emmener pleins de trucs avec soit dont on n’a pas besoin. Je ne suis pas non plus superstitieux, ce n’est pas comme si je devais emmener une couverture porte bonheur ou un truc du genre.

You just turned pro for Skate Mental, and had a full part for Nike. How would you sum up 2015 ?
Its been a really busy year for me. A lot of traveling and a lot of skating. But its been so much fun!
Kind of unreal in a way.
Tu viens juste de passer pro pour SkateMental et tu had une part dans la vidéo Nike. Comment tu résumes ton année 2015 ?
Cest une année très chargée pour moi. Beaucoup de voyage et beaucoup de skate. Ca a été vraiment très plaisant. Je dirais irréel dans un sens.

How did you feel at the premiere in LA being the guy with a strange name from somewhere far in Europe ?
haha I knew a lot of people at the premiere so it didn’t feel weird or anything, but I was definitely really nervous about everyone seeing my part. All in all it was a great night though, probably the best night of my life! So much fun!
Qu’as tu ressenti à l’ avant-premiere à LA, en étant le type de quelque part en Europe avec un nom étrange ?
Ahah Je connaissais déjà pas mal de monde donc je ne me suis pas trop senti bizarre, mais jétait vraiment nerveux à l’idée que tout le monde allait voir ma part. Probablement la meilleure soirée de ma vie !

What are your plans for 2016 ?
I Think Brad wants to make a Skate Mental video, so I’m gonna try and work on that. But I also want to do something in Oslo.
Des plans pour 2016 ?
Je crois que Brad veut faire une vidéo SkateMental, donc je vais me focaliser la dessus. Je voudrais aussi faire quelque chose à Oslo.
